Waco UBF 2 Restoration
Restoring the Waco UBF 2

Fuselage at Forrest Lovley’s many years ago

Wings, center section

Typical hardware condition after 8 years in salty environment near Atlantic

For some reason ailerons in original restoration never got painted

Original center section – note flat paint which didn’t match the fuselage

Original paint on wings did not include N numbers which we added after painting

Painting N numbers

Note bubbling at tapes which was present throughout wings and empennage before 2nd restoration

Original speed ring was cracked due to overtightening. This is new ring before polishing

Speed ring during polishing process which required 40 hours of labor.

Exhaust during polishing by Jamie Lyons

Empennage disassembled to sand and repaint horizontal

Fuel system valve was replaced to all both tanks to feed simultaneously

Unpainted control sticks – we painted

This will clean up nicely!

Note abrasion damage to strut which will require sanding, and repainting

Salt abrasion on prop

Note rust which was sanded off, primed, and repainted

Both lower ailerons were damaged by ground contact, replaced, and painted

All corroded hardware was replaced with new stainless steel
